Lindsay grew up in Maryland, riding and showing in the hunters, and winning several division champions with her Hanoverian, Jester.  While in college, she worked at several different barns, started training and teaching, and worked on incorporating different training methods for starting horses under saddle. After intensive courses, she received her CHA instructor and facility manager certifications. Lindsay has worked successfully with all breeds and types of horses, and enjoys challenges in training and teaching. Check out her training philosophy and methods.

Elizabeth Hale-Garland

Riding Instructor

 

Elizabeth has been training horses and teaching riding for over 20 years, participating in many musical freestyle, pas de deux, and quadrille performances, as well as dressage tests through Level 4. She enjoys training many types of horses, and has worked with many Thoroughbreds, Warmbloods, Lipizzans, Arabians, Andalusians, and other breeds. It is her aspiration to practice, protect, and promote traditional hormanship as set forth by the lineage of the Spanish Riding School of Vienna, through Alois Podhajsky and Karl Mikolka. Jason Barrow

Farm Manager and Maintenance

 

Jason is our general farm manager, overseeing day-to-day operations in all aspects of our farm. Jason has a vast array of experience in both human and veterinary medicine. He was trained in the U.S. Army as an E.M.T. and as a Laboratory Technician, his veterinary experience extends to: small animal, large animal, shelter medicine, wildlife rehabilitation, and the management of feral cat communities in urban environments. Jason helps out around the farm as needed with maintenance and, having grown up in the family construction business, he oversees our construction projects as well. Jason is in charge of our animal rehabilitation program and trail rides with his Paint mare, Rain, who is also one of our lesson horses.  They are also learning dressage.

 

          

Marikay Portell

Trainer

 

With a background in hunter/jumpers and a career in physical therapy, Marikay brings a unique perspective to our training program. She has an innate skill at bringing out a horse's positive traits and settling them so they can focus on learning. Marikay offers competition - focused training for hunter/jumpers and off-the-track Thoroghbreds, as well as trail, pleasure, performance training for Paso Finos.
