Our Horses
Our lesson horses are essential to our farm, and have the most important job of all - teaching and taking care of our students. They are specially selected for their personalities and athletic abilities, and we have a wide variety of horses to be able to match most riders.
Our lesson horses are regularly tuned up and we continue their individual training to keep their bodies healthy and their minds active. They are greatly respected and appreciated. They receieve the finest in nutrition, hoof care, and medical care to keep them healthy and sound. We give them boots, wraps, blankets, and supplements as needed, as well as regular massage therapy and chiropractic work.
We value our lesson horses tremendously. We could not do our jobs without them. In turn, they are happy to work for us and love their jobs, which is how it should be.
A happy horse makes for a happy ride.
Hank-15.3h AQHA palomino gelding, born 2002. A favorite with everyone because of his striking good looks and lovable personality, Hank is our solid Western horse. He is quiet and dependable, neck reins beautifully, and is the best for teaching students how to trot. He is a pro at trail riding, and will go in English tack as well, on a loose rein. He is an eye-catching palomino, and loves being pampered and having his long, silky mane and tail brushed with detangler.
Rain-15.2h APHA chestnut overo mare, born 2002. Owned by our farm manager, Jason Barrow. Rain is a great all-around horse who has as much personality as she does color. She teaches beginner Western lessons, and beginner to advanced English and jumping lessons. She is an experienced trail horse, and has been started on working cattle. Rain welcomes the attention of every rider, switching effortlessly and willingly between disciplines and skill levels. She is the daughter of Babe, and half-sister to Classy.
Mickey-15.1h APHA bay overo gelding, born 1997. An experienced Western Pleasure and Hunt Seat horse, Mickey teaches beginning through advanced Western and English lessons. His smooth gaits and good manners make him a great fit for our program.
Babe-16h APHA chestnut overo mare, born 1997. A kind and honest mare, Babe is a versatile and steady horse that easily goes from beginner Western pleasure lessons to showing in the hunter ring. She is also currently showing in hunter/jumpers and dressage and will be available for lease.
Maya-16h chestnut Andalusian/Thoroughbred mare, born in 1995. A gentle giant, with a big heart and a kind eye, Maya is one of those rare horses who will adjust to her rider. She is slow and careful with children and beginners, and steps it up for a more confident rider or more advanced dressage work. She has the lovely, smooth gaits of the Andalusian and is a favorite ride for those of us with back or joint problems. She loves to work, and feels super special if she gets to teach more lessons than the other horses. If she doesn't get picked for a ride, we all hear about it-she is very vocal, and expects all the special attention she deserves!
Dakota-14.2h gray roan Appaloosa mare, born 1992. Purchased in 1998 as a "quick training project," Dakota has wormed her way into our hearts and become a permanent resident. A highly intelligent, opinionated mare, she has become an excellent teacher who will only do it right if her rider does it right. She expects perfection from her rider, and she will deliver perfection herself. Although only 14.2 hands tall (with shoes), this ball of muscle on springs loves to jump objects larger than herself, and will fearlessly carry her rider over anything a cross-country course has to offer. Dakota has also settled into dressage work with the help of FEI dressage rider and clinician Brad Cutshall, and loves to show off her moves. Dakota much prefers intermediate or advanced riders, but will happily and safely tote children over cross-rails in exchange for some marshmallow Peeps.
Princess Rainbow-15h APHA black and white tobiano mare, born 2001. A sweet and gentle soul, Princess Rainbow (aka P-Bow) is a rescue horse that now has a permanent home at Liberty Glen. She will be getting back into some light work when fully sound and healthy, and will be incorporated into our lesson program. She has a calm and unflappable demeanor, and a kind and sweet personality. We are tremendously pleased to have this lovable mare as a part of our family.
Classy-15.1h APHA solid chestnut mare with chrome, born 2006. Half-sister to Rain, Classy is in training for English and Western. She is a calm, trusting, and loving mare. Classy is a lovely mover and shows great potential to be a spectacular show hunter and all-around horse. Classy loves to be groomed, and always wants in on whatever is going on-she comes at a gallop when called! She is currently being started under saddle, and we look forward to her training, showing, and joining the lesson program in the next few years.
Lady-14.3h black and white tobiano Pinto mare, born 2000. Purchased from our friends at Dry Creek Ranch and Stables in Rolla who rescued her from starvation, Lady has turned out to be a great Western and trail horse. Lindsay's personal trail horse, Ladybird also gets to work cattle and serve as a four-wheeler for any ranch work that needs to be done. Lady has a smooth stride that makes hours in the saddle enjoyable. She barely tolerates arena work, though she does love to serve as a comfy chair during lessons, and watch the other horses work. Lady gets the privilege of being the only horse on the property Dakota can tolerate being pastured with, and the two of them have a distinct skill for demolishing a round bale in record time. Lady is occasionally used for advanced Western lessons.
Edy-15.1h gray roan Arabian/Appaloosa mare, born 2001. Another highly intelligent and opinionated mare, Edy is athletic and tough with endurance to rival the Energizer bunny. After getting a late start in her training, she has proved to be a quick study. We love her intense personality and drive as well as her ground-covering, floaty movement. Her abilities are leaning towards dressage and eventing, and we hope to make significant progress in her training this year and start competing her in 2012. She will not be used for lessons. Watch for pictures of her progress!
